Building Hope and Healing Together
A capital campaign in support of a cancer center on the Olathe Medical Center (OMC) campus.
OMC is developing a comprehensive, state-of-the-art and centralized cancer center on its campus.
The communities we serve have a growing, pressing need for a comprehensive cancer center. Nearly 3,200 new cancer cases are diagnosed each year in OMC's four-county service area, which means approximately nine people every day. Those individuals deserve the opportunity to be cared for by physicians they know and trust, without the burden of traveling far from home. The new cancer center will integrate all OMC cancer services into one location. Download full Cancer Center Capital Campaign brochure.
How You Can Help Build Hope
Through OMC's cancer center, patients facing a cancer diagnosis and their families can continue their care with health providers they have grown to trust without the stress of undue travel or transfer at this very vulnerable time. To provide the community with first-class, comprehensive cancer care and treatment facilities requires the support of OMC's neighbors. There are many opportunities for you to help. See details below about the funding opportunities available. For more information, call the Olathe Health Charitable Foundation (OMCCF) at 913-791-4216 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. To request an OMCCF representative to speak at your group or organization’s next meeting, please contact Sandy Rieger at email@example.com.
Cancer Center Naming Rights
OMC welcomes the opportunity to discuss naming the cancer center building in honor of a donor.
Entrance, Lobby and Waiting Area
Fundraising Goal: $250,000
The entrance and lobby will create a warm, welcoming space as patients, their friends and family enter the building. The new cancer center will convey an air of respect, calm, comfort and support-an environment that mirrors the compassionate care provided within. The area can convert to meeting space in the evenings for support groups, community programs, speaking events and educational programs.
Radiation Therapy Suite
Fundraising Goal: $1,000,000
Radiation therapy is used in the treatment of two-thirds of all cancer patients. For most cancers treated with radiation, approximately 75 percent of the patients receive treatment with intent to cure. The most common type of radiation, external beam therapy, consists of high dose x-rays given daily Monday - Friday for several weeks. Breast, prostate and lung cancer make up more than 50 percent of all patients receiving radiation.
The new radiation therapy suite will feature:
- New, state-of-the-art radiation therapy technology, including a linear accelerator with stereotactic capabilities, multi-slice CT simulator, advanced treatment planning system and physics equipment for quality control
- Relaxing radiation therapy treatment rooms
- Adjacent medical oncology suites for patient convenience during combined therapies in the same visit
Chemotherapy Infusion Suite
Fundraising Goal: $425,000
Many newly diagnosed cancer patients receive chemotherapy treatments. Each receives an average of six chemotherapy administrations lasting approximately four hours each session. These treatments are typically very debilitating for patients, requiring a significant emotional and time commitment for their friends and families. It is critical to provide a comfortable, supportive environment for these treatment sessions.
The chemotherapy infusion suite will feature:
- Private and semi-private rooms
- Specialized chemotherapy stations with individual electrical, data, video and communication ports
- Nearby refreshment area with beverages and light snacks available to patients and families
Appearance Center and Boutique
Fundraising Goal: $300,000
As a result of various treatment regimens, many cancer patients experience temporary or permanent physical changes and diminished self-esteem. The appearance center and boutique will offer both male and female patients an array of products and services to cope with their unique cosmetic and comfort needs.
The boutique will feature:
- Comfort and cosmetic items, including hats and turbans, sun protective clothing, canes, colostomy supplies, wigs, breast prosthetics and skin care products
- Prosthetics fitting and durable medical equipment coordination
