Breathing Never Felt So Good

This is Chaz's Story

Chaz S., sinus patient at the Advanced Sinus Center at Olathe Medical Center

Chaz Steele battled sinus symptoms from the time he was eight years old. He experienced issues in school because he had difficulty hearing.

“I remember waking up with excruciating pain in my head,” Chaz said. “My vision and hearing were affected, and I had a throbbing headache. I just wanted to go back to bed with a pillow over my head.” Outside activities were dreadful because of his breathing problems. One day, the pain of his sinuses prevented him from leaving his home.

Over the years, Chaz tried a number of remedies to help his sinus condition. He tried flushing his nasal cavity, using nasal sprays, massaging his sinuses and numerous medications.

“I ended up seeing my primary care doctor every two months for a sinus infection,” Chaz said. “I lived on antibiotics for several years. We decided it was time for me to see a specialist.”

Chaz visited the specialists at the Advanced Sinus Center at Olathe Medical Center. They explained how a minimally invasive procedure, called balloon sinuplasty, could dramatically improve Chaz’s sinus issues and his life.

“I always heard that sinus surgery was very scary and painful,” Chaz said. “But the doctors at Olathe Medical Center explained that the procedure was not very invasive and recovery was easy.”

Chaz underwent balloon sinuplasty in the spring of 2012. He said this was the best decision he’s ever made.

“I feel fantastic,” Chaz said. “I don’t feel any congestion in my sinuses. I have a clear airway passage and can breathe very easily. I can actually take my dog for walks in the park. The procedure was definitely worth it.”
