Neurologists diagnose, evaluate and treat diseases and conditions related to the nervous system including the spinal cord, brain, nerves and muscles.

A neurologist has specialized training in nervous system disorders including problems with muscle strength, movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, language, and other cognitive abilities.

A patient may be referred to a neurologist for pain management, headache disorders such as migraine, epilepsy and seizure disorders, neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, cerebral palsy, stroke, movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, tics and tremors, and tumors or trauma in the brain or spinal cord.
