Jaree Lanser, RRT, who works in the Cardiopulmonary Department at Miami Country Medical Center as a registered respiratory therapist, is the 2021 Frank H. Devocelle Legacy Award winner. After being recognized as the 4th Quarter Outstanding Associate, senior leadership team named the 14-year-veteran the Frank H. Devocelle Legacy Award Winner. For this achievement, Jaree will receive a $2,000 cash award, lunch with the CEO, plus other gifts.

Going the Extra Mile

Although the respiratory therapy staff are normally only scheduled during weekday day shifts, Jaree has been in overnight and on weekends a lot during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Jaree put in countless hours to provide care to patients who needed extra respiratory therapy care,” Paul Luce, administrator at Miami County Medical Center, said. “She truly goes above and beyond for our patients and her team.”

Highly dedicated to improving quality and safety measures, Jaree also delivered extra education to the nursing staff and physicians throughout the pandemic.

Following Her Calling

Healthcare was a natural fit for Jaree because she’s always enjoyed caring for others. And after seeing family and friends struggle with heart and breathing issues throughout her life, respiratory therapy was a natural fit.

“I wanted to become more knowledgeable about these conditions and their treatment,” Jaree recalled. “Whether it’s from education or treatment, it’s so rewarding to play a role in a patient’s healing journey and witness their improvement from the care you provided.”

Today, Jaree assists with both cardiac and respiratory procedures in the outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings. Outside of her patients, her colleagues keep her motivated.

“It truly takes a village to care for a patient,” Jaree said. “I value each and every coworker, and their part in the care of our patients. The camaraderie amongst employees (friends) is amazing.”

Jaree enjoys spending time with family and friends outside of work. When she is not tending to the many animals on her farm, she likes to garden, craft and fish with her young boys.
