About Our Speech-Language Pathology
Speech-Language Pathologists provide evaluation and treatment services to those with speech, language, voice, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
Our pathologists, located at clinics in Johnson and Miami counties, provide specialized testing and treatment based on each patient’s needs. Specific diagnostic services include videofluoroscopic swallowing studies, instrumental analysis of vocal function and standardized cognitive/achievement testing may also be completed. VitalStim is a treatment that can be used to assist patients with difficulty swallowing. The Visi-Pitch equipment provides visual and auditory feedback to those with voice disorders.
Common conditions that may require a Speech-Language Pathologist are:
- Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
- Memory impairments
- Decreased cognition
- Aphasia
- Voice problems
- Neurologic diseases
- Stroke and head injuries

The Olathe Health Rehabilitation Services Department offers the LSVT BIG and LOUD program with the focus on improvement of movement and voice in patients with Parkinson’s disease. There are LSVT-certified therapists in each discipline of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy within Olathe Health.
